Neil,
Bribery would never work. I found out a long time ago that the members of the forum are upright and wouldn’t stand for that kind of skullduggery. I did find that a few could be bribed with the offer of food but I don't think I could entice enough to cast a vote in my favor to win. Besides, I don’t think that my cooking is up to it. So I guess I'll have to let the votes fall where they may.
My offer to let Bo Peep use my slogan as she sees fit was made for legal reasons.

My offer to let Bo Peep use my slogan as she sees fit was made for legal reasons.
As Bo Peep stated quite clearly at the start of her original thread what she wanted to use the slogan for and in what way, I assume that all of us who put forward entries were prepared for her to use the slogan in her advertising. Just wish I could have thought of a snappier one :D

I wanted this competition to be as open and honest as it could possibly be, and that is why I asked for the slogans to be posted on the open forum.
Sue has made a magnificent job of setting up the poll - I certainly could not have done this, and now you all have the chance to vote for the slogan you like best. One member, one vote (yes, in case you are wondering, like you, I only get one vote) and the winner takes the prize.

Hi Tom,
I have pinned this as requested but as new threads are started, it will move down the page.
This is important and I do not want anyone to miss the chance of voting for the new B-G slogan, so if it seems to be disappearing, perhaps someone can just nudge it back to the top of the page again.
If you need a reminder about the wonderful prize, look here (http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23428).

Nudge. I wonder if part of the problem is that only those who regularly look at New Posts will see this. Every time I look at Who's On Line there seem to be about 40 members, with the same names cropping up each day. There may only be 100 or so people who use the Forum by looking at New Posts daily. The vast majority of the 12,000 odd people who are registered will probably put a query on concerning their family, watch for a week or so to see if replies come in on that particular forum, and then perhaps only visit again when they receive an e-mail notifying them of a new post on that forum. Is there some facility for an Administrator to send an e-mail to all members asking them to vote, or is that unrealistic with so many members? (not a techie:()

Pam,
For those that do not look at new posts what about on the front page underneath the 'Parish Chest News' or 'Welcome' Headings (the newbies find that OK) putting a new Heading. Maybe called something like VOTE NOW! Closing Date .... in red. It could be locked so it does not become a thread just an information note. I don't know if you can link to the Poll.

You could argue that point - but at least Pam has given all members the opportunity to vote for their choice. She could have simply chosen her own personal favourite - especially bearing in mind that the logo will be used on pamphlets and other materials which she will produce.
All democratic voting has its faults - in the UK for example, the Government usually gets elected by less than half of all votes cast - thus more than 50% of the population did not vote for whichever party is elected.
The hardest part of this vote is choosing which slogan to vote for - so many good ideas!

My thought was that there were just too many to choose from, and some of them very similar, but yes, I did vote although only one other person agreed with my choice.
Would it be possible to narrow the vote, discard all the zeros, ones, twos, threes and fours and vote again for the top six ? By my count this would be
1 ...................... 6 votes
3 .......................6 votes
4 .......................9 votes
12 .....................6 votes
14 .....................8 votes
42 .....................6 votes
If number 4 were to win with 9 votes and 80 have voted (at the time of writing) this means that 71 are not in agreement. I appreciate that whoever wins it is likely that some will not agree but a second vote would narrow the odds.
Just a thought !

Take those that have tied in first place and have a vote for just them over a limited period of time.
Perhaps those who thought of the tied posts could conduct a short campaign, seeking funding for those campaigns from third parties, but strictly within guidelines???

Go and have a stiff drink now Bo Peep and hand it over to the techies! Quite a nice last minute rush and a respectable poll in the end.
Congratulations Peter - a worthy winner.

If it hadn't been for Sue and her expertise, there would not have been a vote!

Without wishing to turn this into an Oscar speech- A Big Thank you to everyone who voted for me. It was a bit close at times and the competition was stiff. Thanks too to Bo Peep and of course, to Sue. I am really looking forward to a good read and I hope that people do get used to the slogan.
Thanks again
Peter

Yes, Congratulations Peter. It's a darned good slogan, one that we can probably remember - unless you are like me and have a memory like... a thing with holes in it that you shake flour through
