Hi all, My 3x grandfather John married Mary Ann but I don't know if it was in Ireland or when they emmigrated to Tasmania Australia but they did already have Margaret, Thomas and was pregnant with Catherine b at sea, they emmigrated in 1855 and Margaret was 3 1/2so most likely Ireland as I can't find it in Tassie. Any ideas on where to look? John was born in Cavan abt 1828.

Hi jessie1888
you will get no help from Tasmanian BDM certificates - they are a bit light on with info about birthplaces.
I think the only thing you can do is to try and find the birthplaces of the first two children if possible - this may be where your couple married. Did all the family stay in Tasmania?

Hi Christine, The 2 eldest children were born in Ireland and the 3rd was born on the way to Tassie , so they are no help and the family stay in Tassie, and I live there :D

Later documentation for those children might reveal where in Ireland that they were born - their marriages or deaths. Their gravestones, obituaries. But I suppose they were all married by 1896 when birthplaces would have been recorded, unless lucky enough to get a second marriage to get the information. Anyone who died from 1914 might have their birthplace recorded.
I would expect that they got married before they arrived in Tasmania. Have you found the shipping record?
