Hello - I am Pat and have been reserarching for about 12 months.

My late father-in-law was the son of a Romany and have been researching
BIRD and GASKIN (HIS father and mother plus their ancestors) They were latterly based loosely in Colchester, Essex and Suffolk but of course wandered the countryside and trying to track down marriages, births and deaths has been a real puzzle.

With regard to my husband's mother (WALTERS)the family seem to be centred around Cranfied in Bedfordshire and FOUNTAIN also is a connection.

With regard to my own background I am researching NICHOLLS (my late father - I have tracked his family down to Essex - White Roding - as is now and have got stuck) and MUNCEY (my late mother - whose family can be traced back to Boxworth in Cabridgeshire as far as the 1750's and then I come to a full stop likewise for her grandparents CHANDLER)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any chance it's the William Bird family who had the big Iron business in London (Wm Bird & Sons) in the 1800's? William Bird was reportedly born in Glamorgan, Cardiff abt 1804. Bird and wife Sarah Buck had 11 children.

Hello Pat,

I have a small flock of Birds from Theberton, Suffolk in the late 1800s as well as another small clutch in Woodford & Walthamstow, Essex about the same time. Any use?

Hi Jan - I definitely have a ROBERT BIRD who is shown to be born in Ipswich (about 1825) and died in Needham, Norfolk in 1904. This ROBERT was a horse dealer and I have details of his probate.

I have found six children of which BENJAMIN BIRD is the father of ELIAS BIRD who married SELINA GASKIN in 1898 . She wss my father-in-law's mother but it would appear that ELIAS was not his father although he was given the name DAVID BIRD.

I am seeking ROBERT BIRD'S parents (ROBERT and MARY) - both born around 1806 in Suffok) and the earlier ancestors. This is where I am stuck.

Walthamstow does not appear to figure. and therefore I am not sure if your flock is the same as mine!

Thanks for your interest
