There is a name of a John Daly on Dungannon War Memorial. My ancestor John Daly was originally from Clonfeacle parish(part Armagh part Tyrone).I am trying to either connect my ancestor to this casualty of WW1, or rule this soldier out.
Any person who can find out who the soldier on Dungannon memorial is and help my search would be a godsend.
Thank you everyone.|help|

Have you tried the CWGC site? it might help you.
http://www.cwgc.org/search/SearchResults.aspx?surname=daly&initials=j&war=1&yearfrom=1900&yearto=2000&force=&nationality=&send.x=32&send.y=19
I did a search, but there are 97 records, each with different info on them, ie, "son of" - "from" etc. might narrow it down a little.
Click here if the top link fails, and then search for him.

This web-site lists those mentioned on the memorial
http://www.ulsterwarmemorials.net/html/dungannon.html
On this, John DALY is shown as being in the Royal Irish Fusiliers
If it's the same chap, CWGC shows a J DALY of the same regiment as having died 1914, son of William and Brigid DALY of 31, Barrack Hill, Armagh

Thank you again Geoffers. This family may well have been relatives of my John...such as uncle, aunt and cousin.Perhaps if I look into it more I may discover they were just that.
I have now eliminated this John Daly from my possibles for my grandfather.I will take your advice and work through all the others really carefully and maybe my granda will emerge at last.
Your assistance has been most welcome, even if we still have not tracked down our man. Thank you very much.

Dear Mike E,
First, thank you for the help.I did as you said and checked the site.Unfortuately, none of those with "son of" details are my John Daly. However, this was also useful as it eliminates a few of the casualties put to me by other posters.I am continuing to work through some of the others whose next of kin were not mentioned.
It is really difficult as you know, trying to work on hunches, when you have not got the mans service number etc: but I will not give up till I find my grandfather.Instead of just remembering him here we would love to find his place of rest or commemoration and honour his sacrifice and that of his fellow soldiers, sailors and airmen at that place.
So I will go to the library tomorrow and see if there is any local details of recruits, I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED.
Many thanks for your help Mike E

I was given this snippet on another post of mine. I'm researching a men on a memorial in Warmley, so we can have regimental badges cut into stones to place around the memorial
"Soldiers Died in the Great War" is available in many CROs, reference libraries etc and is also online.
Might be worth a look at this. To buy the CD will cost £200+, but I've not looked yet, but should be searchable online.

Thank you Mike.I was planning to go to the library today, but now have no time. However,I will get access to the disc somehow even if it means going into Glasgow. They have a huge library with a vast archive at the Mitchell Library.I am sure they would have the disc.
This is a great site, with such helpful members.I am sure the information I got here will narrow the field.

|help|Thanks to clues from you all I have found out that my grandfather JOHN DALY,(spelling Daley in Coatbridge Men of the Great War) lived at 16,East Stewart St,Coatdyke and joined the 6th Btn Royal Irish Fusiliers the local battalion for Armagh, where he came from originally. His service number in that book is 13236.
Despite a search in the National Archives, the CWGC site,The Scottish National war memorial site I cant find out any more about him.If anyone can tell me any more I would be exceedingly grateful.|help|
