Hi all,

Been researching the Warmley memorial in South Glos for the technical Admin on the Landscape team, as they are going to refurbish the memorial which I think is a great idea. below an extract from the E-Mail I received.

We are currently looking at putting Portland stone paving slabs around the war memorial at Warmley (in the Parish of Siston) as part of an improvement scheme for the memorial park. The Friends of Warmley War Memorial Park would like us to look at the possibility of getting the regimental badges of those listed cut into some of the slabs but I have no idea how to identify which regiments these are.

Well I've done that for her, But looking for some assistance in getting good quality images of the badges. Found some here, http://www.regiments.org/
but not great.

Mike,
I'm not sure what to suggest for the Royal Navy/Merchant Navy.

Each ship may have had a ship's crest, but I'm not sure how official they were. And certainly there was no equivalent of a "regimental" badge worn by each crewmember.

Maybe find out what badges the CWGC use on war graves in these cases? A standard Naval motif I imagine.

I think I'll try and find the ship crest first, but failing that the Navy and merchant Navy emblem would be the best.

I had an e-mail from the lady who made the original request, and she is chuffed to bits with the info we have supplied her, and is already speaking to the stonemasons. I'll get some pictures of the finished article, but may not be available until Oct next year.

Thank you thank you to all my little helpers. |hug|

I've also had a result from the CWGC today, they are sending me scans of the regimental badges for the chaps listed on the memorial.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the offer, I wrote to the CWGC and a nice lady there sent me all the images I needed to pass on to south Glos folks who are working on the memorial. They hope to have the work completed for 11 Nov 08, I'll go down and get some pictures and post to the forum.

P.S. I only live round the corner from the Museum, and I've not been, must put that as something to do in the near future, the web site looks good.
