Hello,

My friend and I think we may be related, as he has the same surname and the same distinctive ears as my great grandfather. His family also shares an apocryphal story with mine of a Thorne female who lost all her brothers in one week in the Somme (some reports say her hair went white overnight, but I doubt that frankly).

We do not know if she was born a Thorne, or married into the family, but if we can find this link we may be able to prove what the link is between my family and my friend's.

The family came from Devon, from Plymouth and prior to that South Molton. My Great Grandfather married an Ethel May Perrey, who originally came from Bampton on the Somerset border.

I have a family tree of the Thorne family going back to the 16th century. As I'm sure you are aware the Thorne name is common in Devon and the west country. My family tree is centred on the Tawstock area of North Devon and its surroundings and I'm sure some of my tribe are buried at South Molton. My family tree goes back quite strictly mainly on one person in each family where the siblings lines have not been followed except those I knew in my lifetime ( I'm 75 )

I was interested to find out why none of them were mentioned in the first world war and I'm pretty sure none o my direct line were. I have a family tree online and would be happy to permit you to view it reciprocally.

Hi Ronald

I am researching the Thorne family of my wife's ;inr. Her 3x ggf was George Thorne c1750 - 1833. I think I have the line back to Richard of Bushton, West Buckland. Is this the same as yours? I hope so and that we can exchange information
