I have started looking into my family tree and have been quite successful in such a short space of time.|banghead|
I am now looking for the birth information of my great grandad Henry Amery. I found his marriage (All Souls Church Hackney) to Jane Alice Freeman on 25th Dec 1902, aged 22 years. I have looked for Henry around 1880 but have had no luck so far. Weird thing, Henry lived at 30 Pedro Street and Jane at 32 Pedro Street (Census 1901), although I found Jane living with her family, but no luck again with Henry.
The Marriage Certificate states Henry's Dad as Charles Amery whom is also untraceable.
I also have these addresses:
27 Oswald Street, Clapton Park, Clapton
64 Oswald Street, Clapton Park, Clapton
5 Gainsborough Square, Hackney Wick
If anyone has any ideas, please help me |help|
Thank you

In the 1901 census there's a Harry Amery living with his step father Charles Cave in Victoria Rd Hackney.
RG 13/235 f 10 p 12
Just a thought...
Are there any clues from the wedding witnesses?

Thank you for your kind welcome. Hi Peter, thank you for your reply. It is definitely Henry and Charles Amery. he witnesses were Jane's brother Frederick Thomas Freeman and someone named Caroline Sophia Burnett.
Thank you
Richard

Just as a matter of interest there is a Caroline Sophia Burnett getting married Q3 1903 Hackney, others on the page are Herbert Walter J Stow and Charles William S Simpson, incase either of these names mean anything.

Hi Bumblebee, thank you for your help. None of these names are known to me. I know Jane's father was James Freeman and her Mum was Isabella (maiden name unknown). She also has other siblings, Isabella 1871, Charles 1875 and Frederick 1878. Out of interest, how do you find all these details?
I do know that Henry was working as a steam bolier coverer and journeyman, i think this means that he may have had to travel frequently.
Thank you
Richard

Henry was working as a steam bolier coverer and journeyman,
Did you bother to look at the 1901 census entry I brought to your attention? Did you notice young Harry's occupation? Boiler Coverer's Labourer. My case rests.

I agree with Peter about the family in 1901................ there is a John Tann Brother in Law, born 1871 St Pancras with the family.
I wonder if Henry gave the name 'Charles' as his father because that is who he grew up with.
Same family on the 1891 and they are all 'Cave's'
Hackney, All Souls, 5 Blines? Road
All born Islington, except Ellen born Hackney.
Charles Cave 29
Elizabeth Cave 33
Ellen Cave 3
George Cave 10
Harry Cave 6
RG12; Piece: 200; Folio 72; Page 65;
and in 1881 I found this
Islington address: 34 Story Street
Elizabeth Amery 23 Married, born Islington,
George Amery Son, 5 months old, born Islington
John A. Amery 23 Married, Traveller, born Islington
Class: RG11; Piece: 237; Folio: 49; Page: 47; Line:
There is a marriage in Q2 1878 Islington with a John Amery and an Elizabeth TUNN on the same page.
All supposition I know......

Hi Peter, this looks to be red herring. I think i have found Elizabeth in 1881 census married to a John Amery.
Thank you

Hi Ramery
I think that is the point........... see my point above.
Did John Amery die? ..... can you find the same family in 1891..........
Can you see a marriage between Charles Cave and Elizabeth Amery?
I think you may have an interesting story on your hands here....

Thanks Bumblebee. Although this maybe an avenue to look into, did people in them days also change their first name plus the dates are out by a few years. Maybe it is possible that Henry was not born in England, maybe the US or i am told Amery comes from France some time ago.

Harry is actually 'Henry', (as in Prince Harry/Henry). My grandfather was Henry, but Harry on every certificate.
You can always look into this more carefully if you do not come up with anything different.
......and yes.....ages vary enormously, my grandfather lost a remarkable 9 years from birth to death...that is what marrying a much younger woman second time around does for you............
Good luck with your research and let us know how you get on.

Bumblebee, I think you are right. I have looked at the profession on the Marriage Certificate and the Censues image and they are the same, although I cannot read it.
What do you think would be the best route to tackle this?
Thanks
Richard

Thanks Bumblebee and Peter.
It looks like you clever people have solved the riddle, although i cannot find Henry/Harrys birth. I have found the birth of George Amery, his brother and their Dad, John (i think).Still looking for his wife Elizabeth Tann's birth. Maybe even his parents Philip and Sarah Amery.

Hi Ramery
I am still having a look around the census and BMD, I like you found George's birth, but no Henry/Harry registered. Will post again if I come up with any thing else that I think might be relevant.

Hi Bumblebee, I have just noticed that George was Amery in 1881 Census, George and Harry were Cave in 1891 Census and both were Amery in 1901 Census. I have also found the marriage between John Amery and Elizabeth Tunn in 1878 but I cannot find the marriage between Eizabeth and Charles Cave. I have also found the birth of Elizabeth Tunn in 1857 (surname confirmed on the birth certificate on George Amery birth certificate.
This is so confusing!!
