I am trying to research my late fathers' naval history. His name is RONALD STIMPSON,but appears to be regirstered in the RN as STIMSON.He was a survivor of HMS Royal Oak (sunk in Scapa Flow).
He was born in Portsmouth in 1915 and joined up about 1935 as a regular before WW2 I know he was a Stoker 1st class,I do not know what other ships he was on.He died in Chichester in 1950 aged 35 years (but by then had left the RN)
Is there anyone out there that might help,I would be very grateful.
REGARDS
Ray

What do you mean by 'no luck'?

You have to write to Portsmouth. As explained on the site, your father would have been given his service record so the Navy can only provide "...Service details (number, rank, name etc) and a list of dates and ships/shore bases".

To the best of my knowledge, this is nothing else that can be done.

Thanks for the info,Peter, have already been through this process of obtaining records from Portsmouth, but need to supply a copy of death certificate of my father, but there is " no record of this person" on the gov-certificates data base,so I have come up against a brickwall. The reason I have posted this thread was in the hope that someone out there may remember my father (very long shot),maybe some else is doing research on my dad? thanks for your interest and help.
Regards Ray.

GRO:

Ronald F Stimpson, 35, Chichester, July to Sep quarter, Vol 5h, page 433

Should be able to order a copy of the death certificate now.

Since your dad was a survivor of the Royal Oak, I'd suggest maybe leaving a message on this site
http://www.hmsroyaloak.co.uk/

If there's someone out there who remembers him, that's probably your best bet.
