My name is Mark Humphreys born in New Zealand but now living in Tasmania Australia.
I have been trying to trace my Grt grt Grandfathers family from bath to new Zealand he was a captain in the army married a lass from Burma and had 13 Kids all over a 30 yr period but i have found nothing to confirm all this even though i have birthdates for him and his kids and his marriage date in Madras India in 1847. It gets Fustrating when you put the info in and you get nothing back! but i will soldier on. I am also trying to figure out How Lord Rutherford Fits into my Nana's side of the tree. any help will be most appreciated

You may find births of children included in either
Army Chaplains returns of births 1796-1880
Regimental Registers of births 1761-1924
both of which are available on pay-per-view sites such as 'findmypast'
If you find a corresponding reference, you can apply for a copy of the certificate(s) from the GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

If he was an officer on the army he should appear in the Army List. You might find partial runs of this in a large reference library - some editions have been copied onto CD and are sold via The parish Chest

A Google Book search for "Army List" should turn up the East India Register & Army List 1845, and Hart's Annual Army List 1846 and 1863, all of which can be read online or downloaded free.
