Hi,
I have an Edmund Millard chr.04/02/1810 in Woburn, son of Edward Millard and Elizabeth Goodman Woods. There is also an Emma Elizabeth Millard chr. 04/02/1838 in Woburn daughter of Edmund and Sarah. I suspect this is the same Edmund but I can't find any mention of him except the christenings. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that's not what the controlled extraction entry on the IGI says!! :(

Angelaj Do you know if this Elizabeth Emma Millard lived to adulthood? There is a death record for an Elizabeth Millard registered in the 4th quarter of 1847 in Woburn. [Ref. Volume 6 page 85]
The 1851 census has an Edmund Millard, 41, a painter and glazer, and wife Eliza, 43, living on High Street in Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire, with sons-in-law [or stepsons, I believe] John Abbey, 15, and Edward Abbey, 14, and daughter, Louisa, 10. No sign of an Emma who would be about 13. Edmund's birthplace is given as Woburn. [Ref. HO107/1723 Folio 140 Page 27]

The Dec quarter 1847 death of Elizabeth Millard in Woburn registration district is probably the same Elizabeth Millard aged 80 who was buried on 16 Nov 1847 at Woburn St Mary, so Elizabeth Emma remains at large (another Elizabeth Millard aged 79 was buried in Woburn on 7 Apr 1847).
A Sarah Millard aged 34 was buried at Fenny Stratford on 24 Dec 1846 - she may be the first wife of Edmund, Elizabeth Emma's mother
FreeBMD has a marriage in Shoreditch (what was he doing in London?) in the June quarter 1847 where two of the eight parties were Edmund Millard and Eliza Abbey (this marriage is also on the IGI - extracted)
In 1841in Fenny Stratford Edmund 30, plumber and glazier, Sarah 25, Mary 7 and Louisa 8 mths (all except Edmund born in Bucks) so it seems as though Elizabeth Emma died young

Hi,
Thanks to you both. The 1851 census info. looks promising. As for the marriage in Shoreditch, I'm not sure why they were married there but I have found a couple of other marriages of Bedfordshire Millards at St. Pancras Old Church (whose children were all christened back in Bedfordshire) so whatever the reason they weren't alone. There are Millards in London as early as the 16th century so possibly there's a family connection buried somewhere.
Also what does the controlled extraction entry say?

Angelaj,
FYI, here's the full 1851 record:
Census: 1851: Ref. HO107/1723 Folio 140 Page 27
Address: High Street, Fenny Stratford, buckinghamshire
-- Edmund Millard Head Mar 41 Painter + Glazier [born] Beds Woburn
-- Eliza do Wife Mar 43 do. Wife [born] Bucks Fenny Stratford
-- John Abbey Son in Law U 15 Painter + --. [I think this = "do."] [born] do. do.
-- Edward do. do 14 Assistant Stationer [not sure of this one] [born] do. do.
-- Louisa Millard Daur 10 Scholar [born] do. do.
BTW, there is a 15-year-old Emma Millard in the 1851 cenus, living in Stotfold, Bedfordshire, with parents Thomas and Sarah Millard and siblings Sarah, Thomas, Eli and Julia. This Emma works as a "Straw Platter" and was born in Stotfold. [Ref. HO107/1753 Folio 341 Page 6]
Also, in 1841, Eliza Abbey, 30 [age probably rounded off] is listed with her 1st husband, John, 30, a baker, and children, Eliza, 10, John, 5 and Edward, 4 living in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire. Also in the household: Joseph Haynes, 25, a journeyman baker. All were born in the county. Next door is Ann Abbey, 40, a publican, and Emma Abbey, 7, living with 3 servants. [Ref. HO107/56 Folio 8 Page 11]

Trish

You don't need anyone to look up the controlled extraction on the IGI - why not do it yourself?
www.familysearch.org
then Search
then International Genelogical Index
then Edmund Millard 1810 British Isles, England, Bedford
You'll get 4 hits
If you open 1 and 2, in the Messages box you'll see "Extracted birth or christening record for locality listed in the record". These are reliable as they are taken (usually) from the parish register.
Entries 3 and 4 have "Record submitted by a member of the LDS Church" in the messages box, and these are unreliable. It was one of these that you quoted in your original post, and you can see why I say that member submissions are unreliable.
Edmund was from Woburn, his second wife was an Abbey. Would she have been referred to as Woburn Abbey?

Hi,
I'm familiar with the site and its drawbacks. I've just been back and checked but can't find any mention of a wife on any of the 4 entries - not even Miss Woburn Abbey. I'm sure I would've remembered that one.
