While researching my gg grandfather:
Robert Wells married Elizabeth Anne Humphreys 1849 Wateringbury, Malling Kent 4Q ( I have copy of marriage cert)
The first child was George Humphrey and as he was on all the censuses I checked his birth and it is correct. So I got curious and checked her and what do I find but a marriage between Elizabeth Anne Ford to William Humphrey who died in the 1Q of 1849 leaving her with George Humprey age 3.

Now the difference in names I can figure out as neither her nor the groom or witnesses could read or write because x marks the spot, so the person who filled out the marriage cert. spelled her name wrong and she would never have known.

Now the fun bit, on all the census from 1851-1891 it is written that she is from Ireland (no place names). On the 1901 census it is written that she is from Leigh.

So was she born in Leigh, Kent or Leigh, Co Tipperary, Ireland? Of course there are no records for me to check whatever it is. And it isn't a big deal as this George Humphrey is no relation to me after all. But my curiousity is in a bit of a twist. I think I have decided that it should be Leigh, Ireland.

Any thoughts?

I'd put my money on 1901 simply being a mistake

There is a village in Dorset, just south of Sherborne, called Leigh. I have a feeling there are a lot of Leighs around the country - but don't know about Ireland. Sorry!
