Aust 1841 Census sound suspiciously like the New South Wales (Australia) Census. Index of names in this Census are online.

According to the PRO catalogue Aust comes under the following
1841 census HO 107/359
PARISH: Henbury (part), TOWNSHIP: Aust, Charlton, Compton
On ACDB 359 (http://www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_2405.html) appears to be on cd06 = HO107/357-359.
Hope this helps

Hello
Just to elaborate of Sally's reply and just in case you aren't aware of how/were to search to find the census piece number....
The National Archive's online catalogue is at:
http://www.catalogue.nationalarchives.gov.uk/default.asp
Click on 'Search the Catalogue' and a new screen appears with several fields.
In field 1, 'Word or Phrase' enter the place name - e.g. Aust
In field 2, enter the year - e.g. 1841
In field 3, enter either HO for census returns in 1841/1851 and RG for later census'.
Click on 'search' and in your case, you should get one hit HO107/359, which you can compare against the ACDB website.

Karl,
What I think has not been made clear is that Aust is a place in Gloucestershire. before the Severn Bridge and second Severn Crossing were built it use3d to be the terminal for the Beachley/Aust ferry that took travellers across the river from Wales to England - and back again - depending on the tide.
Aust could also be used as an abreviation of Australia, but not in this case :)
