I am looking for information re Benjamin Bullimore. He was a theatrical blacksmith living at 38 Tynemouth St Fulham during the early 1900's. Does anyone know what a theatrical blacksmith was? He was deceased by 1915. His widow was Susan Bullimore who died in 1915.

Judith Bullimore (great grandaughter)No, I can't say I do although, occupation-wise, I see a possible match for him in the 1901 census. Do you have this?

Census: 1901: RG13/3052 Folio 101 Page 3
Address: North Witham, Lincolnshire
-- Benjamin Bullimore Head M 57 Blacksmith [Working on] Own account at Home [born] Northants Kings Cliffe
-- Ben. Do. Son S 20 Do worker at Home [born] Lincs Colsterworth

Father Benjamin is listed as married [i.e., not widowed] so the rest of the family must be living elsewhere.

Is this "Ben" yours?

Trish

Hi Trish,
Thanks very much for the information. I will check it out. Sarah and Susan Bullimore could well be one and the same. I don't know if this is my Benjamin but the name doesn't seem to be that common in the 1900's and he was a blacksmith.

Kind regards
Judith Bullimore

Sarah and Susan Bullimore could well be one and the same.Judith, do you know what age Susan would've been when she died in 1915?

I was working under the assumption that Benjamin's son, Ben, was the one who went on to marry Susan but, then, that would mean he died before he was 35 [if he was only 20 in 1901]. Puzzling...

BTW, do you suppose a "theatrical blacksmith" was involved in constructing the stage sets? Or maybe your Benjamin was just a particularly emotive blacksmith? ;)

Hi Trish
Thanks for your email. Susan Bullimore was 63 when she died in 1915 according to her death certificate. There was a coroner's inquest held as she was found dead in St Pancras London. In view of this official involvement I was hoping that the death age would be accurate. Susan was my great grandmother and on her death certificate it states that she was the widow of Benjamin Bullimore (also deceased) who was the theatrical blacksmith. The address given was 38 Tynemouth St Fulham. This phrase "theatrical blacksmith" intrigued me. Perhaps you are right and he was just a very "emotive" blacksmith. I just cannot seem to get any further than these facts and although I am now in London the search still hasn't become any easier.
Thanks again for your interest.
Kind regards
Judith Bullimore
