RE:WILLIAM HENRY WILKS

Can anyone help me find any information about the parents and ancesters of William Henry Wilks.He was born on 6th May 1825 in Sheffield, Yorkshire and joined The 13th (1st Somersetshire)(Prince Alberts Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot on 5th April 1845 in the County of Lancashire.On 29th July 1849 he married Mary Ryan at Carrickmacross,Monanghan,Ireland.He then served abroad from 1851 finishing up in Darjeeling,India where he lived until he died on 18th December 1894.
He had five sons,William, John,George John,Patrick and Jeremiah.
Any information regarding his ancestors and parents would be greatly appreciated.

There is a William Wilks born Sheffield in 1827 at Winchester Barracks in 1851. This I presume you have.

There are at least 8 William Wilks born Yorkshire at about the same time in the 1841 Census on Ancestry but as it just says born in county, I have no idea which could be yours. Do you not have a father's name from his birth or marriage certificate?

As regards his children do you know if they were born in England, Ireland, India or elsewhere on his travels?
