Hi
I wonder if anybody can assist or put forward any theories. My ggg-grandfather Richard LIGHTFOOT (b Lansallos 1796) was married to an Elizabeth ???? (b St Keyne 1799). Their two children were both given OLIVER as a middle name and as there is no precedent for this in the family, I have to presume that this was a name from the maternal line (most probably the mother's maiden name).

The first child was born at Morval which is a few miles away from the family home of Treweers Farm, Lansallos so I wondered whether she had gone back to her family home to give birth.

I have found a baptism for an Elizabeth OLVER (7 Jul 1799) on the IGI which sort of fits but I have yet to find where this couple married. Can anybody with access to either Morval or St Keyne marriages help me out?

Morval marriages are included in the IGI Batch Number M052931 (1538-1837)

I've looked and there is no Lightfoot marriage in Morval, though there is an Elizabeth OLVER marrying a Thomas HARDING in 1820.

St Keyne Marriages are also included in the IGI Batch Number M053201 (1597-1837)
An Elizabeth OLIVER married Jacob GRIGG in 1819.

This may well be your couple.
Richard Lightfoot married Elizabeth Oliver 16 Nov 1835 at East Stonehouse Church, Plymouth, Devon

The information came from "The Deanery of the Three Towns" CD from Devon FHS.
It wasn't uncommon for people from SE Cornwall to marry in one of the three towns that now make up Plymouth.

Thanks Sue that looks like my couple. No wonder I couldn't find them I was looking in the wrong county!

It still has me wondering about the Morval connection and that she gave birth to her first child there but I can't think of any other reason than that it was her parent's home.

Many thanks again

Maybe Richard was farming in Morval, in preparation for taking on the family farm.
