A Leeds descendant of Elizabeth b 1833 was enquiring about this family 18 months or so ago on [url]
(now that the 1841 is online I can see that the family was living in Leeds in 1841).
If you need any census information, just shout, although I suspect that you have 1841 if you have deduced that William was dead by then.
A William Woodland age 53 was buried at Millbrook on 23 Dec 1807 and a Sarah Woodland age 58 on 7 Jan 1816.
The IGI includes extracted entries for virtually all of Beds pre 1812. There's only one William Woodland in the right time frame, baptised 3 Aug 1755 at Aspley Guise (5 miles from Millbrook), parents Richard & Elizabeth (William & Sarah named a son Richard in 1798, if you believe in naming patterns). You need to check Millbrook parish register (or at least the transcript) to see if parishes of residence were given for William and Sarah's marriage on 1 Nov 1777 at Millbrook, but this William baptism looks pretty positive.
A Sarah Litchfield was baptised in Millbrook on 7 Jul 1755, parents John and Sarah, although there were burials of three Sarah Litchfields in Millbrook, any of which might have been this one - 29 Sept 1755, 16 Jan 1757, and 20 May 1757. You'd need the transcript to try to work out who was who.

Hello David
Thanks so very much for your reply - I am very exicted to get this email.
Living on the otherside of the world does make it difficult to get hold of these records so anything is appreciated.
I have contacted the other person who you suggested so I will need to wait and see.
I have a copy of that 1841 transcript and yes it is my family - I found it last year after our family had lost the missing link for over 100 years.
I see William was not on the census but was not too sure if William was dead as I did not think it stated the marital status of his wife ?
Well my trip to England next year will certainly now deserve a trip to the old home town.
Thanks a million for your kind help
Kind regards
Heather nee Woodland- Cape Town South Africa
Ps If you need any help on South African records please do not hesitate to ask me.

Hello, In response to David's queries & his prompt
The marriage of William Woodland to Sarah Litchfield on 1 Nov 1777 has no further details as to which parish they came from, so assume otp.
Burials of Sarah Litchfield,
29 Sept 1755 daughter of Edward & Sarah Litchfield
16 Jan 1757 daughter of John & Sarah Litchfield
20 May 1757 wife of John Litchfiel
Burial of William Woodland on 23 Dec 1807 says senior, age 53
more info on children of William & Sarah Woodland should be on the IGI.
Baptisms; Thomas 3 May 1778, Kitty 17 Mar 1781, William 5 Oct 1783, Eliz 26 Mar 1786, Sarah 1 Jan 1788, Martha 2 June 1790.
On 17 June 1798 we have Ann born 31/03/1793, Mary born 31/08/1794, Richard born 21/01/1798;
+ wonderfully named, Flowers, son of John & Ann Woodland (my name is Sue, how do you do !)
Burials, William 8 Feb 1780, Sarah 12 Feb 1799 age 21, Ann 26 Feb 1799 age 6

Hello John
Thanks very much indeed - this is wonderful news - after being at it for over 20 years now I am really making some excellent progress.
I have seen the name of Flowers before and also thought what beautiful and unsual name - I would have thought it was a girls name - how wrong was I !!
The Richard born 21/01/1798 is definitely mine and ties up with the rest of the family.
I am most greatful for this information. If there is any help you need from South Africa please do not hesitate to ask
kind regards

Even better news about Flowers Woodland is that there was an earlier Flowers Woodland baptised in Aspley Guise on 6 April 1773, also son of Richard and Elizabeth Woodland. I think that adds more evidence that William who married in Millbrook in 1777 was the one baptised in Aspley Guise in 1755.
The problem occurs with a marriage for Richard Woodland and Elizabeth, which I cannot find (it wouldn't surprise me if she was Elizabeth Flowers!). A Richard Woodland was buried in Aspley Guise on 2 March 1796, and an Elizabeth on 30 Nov 1804. No ages are given unfortunately.
Prior to the 1750s the bulk of the Woodland burials in Beds were in Husborne Crawley, a mile from Aspley Guise - but no Richard was baptised there at the right time. And there were a lot of Flowers in Ampthill, 4 miles away, in the period 1730-1820
Got any brilliant thoughts JP?

Someone posted a marriage entry on the IGI of Richard Woodland to an Elizabeth <about 1771> at Aspley Guise, He was born <about 1749> & she was born <about 1752>. However there is not an extracted entry from the PR so fictional. There was a Richard Woodland baptised at Husbourne Crawley on 20 Oct 1748 ....... but he died 1749

I think that particular LDS member was working backwards from the 1773 Flowers, ignoring the fact that Richard and Elizabeth produced children from 1755-1773, which obviously makes their births much earlier - c 1733.
