Hello anyone interested enough to read this first posting to these forums.
I live in Sheffield, UK and I am researching my side of the family - Lydiat - and have got back to 1862 when my great grandfather Joseph was born near Broxton / Bunbury in Cheshire. My dad, grand-dad and Joseph have army connections - especially the 1st and 2nd Middlesex regiments. Joseph married an Alderney girl (Selina A) whose family name I am trying to trace - there are 3 Selina A's in the 1881 Channel Island census, all of the right age, with the family names Pezet, Rourke and Young. How significant is it that I can find no trace of a marriage certificate for Joseph? If he had married on Alderney (I believe his regiment was there about 1882-84) should I still be able to trace this document? In 1901 Joseph and Selina were living in Hythe, Kent with their 6 children.
Grateful for any help and advice.
