Hi ! I am new to this board. I am from the USA and researching the family name of Whittington. I found my Great grandmother Emma Whittington on the British 1861 census. She was 2 months old at the time. (born in jan 1861). Her parents were Charles and Julia. The census shows an older brother Ellis (ellic) 2 yrs old. The family moved to the USA about 1867.
When they came to the US the census shows an older sister Mary, and Emma name shows up as Margaret (possibly a middle name).
Charles Ellis Whittington was born around New Castle, I believe.,aroung 1837.
JUlia was born around 1839.

JUlia was born around 1839.Have you also found the following on the 1861 census -- maybe this is the missing Mary?
Census: 1861: RG9/2532 Folio 107 Page 27

There is a marriage record for Charles Ellis Whittington which shows a Julia Ann Cooke as a possible bride in the 3rd quarter of 1856 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. [Ref: Volume 7b Page 727]
This all fits together rather beautifully when you take a look at the Daniel Cook family in 1851:
Census: 1851: HO107/2147 Folio 722 Page 19

Do you have all this?

No, not twins, just an enumeration error, I think, judging by the 1841 entry:
Census: 1841: HO107/1328 Folio 30 Page 8
Address: Thorpe Common, Rotherham, Yorkshire
-- Daniel Cook 45 Coal Miner Y [Yes for born in same county]
-- Mary do 45 Y
-- Thomas do 19 Coal Miner Y
-- Martha do 15 Y
-- Vincent do 14 Coal Miner Y
-- Lydia [difficult to read the name] do 12 Y
-- Julia ann do 2 Y
-- Joseph do 3 months Y
-- John Wilson 12 Ap N
Also, just a couple of households away, there's a George Cook, 20, Coal Miner, living with one other young coal miner.

THanks ! You got it right. I was not sure about the name Cook, but you just confirmed it. I was having trouble with different spellings of Whittington and not finding Mary Ann. I have been able to find all info I can in the USA connection, but am having trouble searching English records.
Thanks again!

Thanks again!Well, we all love a challenge. If there's something that's tripping you up, especially with respect to the English side, just post the problem and someone is bound to respond.
You've found Charles in 1841?
