A few years ago there was an excellent post-box called pubsindex
or similar which now seems to have disappeared

Google returns a site that appears to be a portal for Ancestry

Does anyono know the present address of the original Pubs Index

Thanks but that is the Ancestry Portal I mentioned

It may be that the original sold out to the giant

Hi Ken,

The Pubs Inns & Taverns Index disappeared quite a while ago. I had numerous dealings with them, they were very helpful, but I've still got *Server not found* when I clicked the link just now.

Contrary what 'Ken Boyce' says, the londonpublichouse link posted by 'blue eyes' in the second message on this thread is not for an Ancestry portal. The site is a private development by a gentleman named Kevan, with help from many others, and is one of many great contributions that he has made in recent years. Take a look at the list down the left side of the home page to see the valuable content that is on offer.

The fact that Kevan's site includes a link to a 14 day free Ancestry trial, a similar link to BMD records at Genes Reunited, and a series of adverts from Google, presumably reflects the reality that providing a comprehensive site like this really does need financial support in one form or another. Incidentally, I even came across a Google link to Parish Chest while I was looking at the site today.

The site certainly does not merit being 'dismissed' as an Ancestry portal. Try it and see - it's full of good stuff, and still growing.

I have just taken a peek at the site, it is truly excellent and full of information.

Re Pub Index
I sincerely apologise to the website Oowners if my posting came across as a putdown That was not my intention or I think my wording My ref to an Ancestry portal was from an (incorrect) observation made from a quick browse of pages of Google unexplored returms Thankfully my error was quickly put right by Hughar

I am interest in learning the fate of original pubindex postbox as I spent a lot of time contributing - in particular by extracting information from the 1881 Census.
