Desperately seeking information on ROBERT MORGAN, Immigrant to Salem, Massachusetts. During my search I have come upon conflicting info as to his origins. Most secondary sources list him as the son of Thomas Morgan and Catherine Herbert of Llaurhymny, Wales.
Robert born 1601, (in a court deposition 1671, he gave his age being 70 yrs old), is first seen in Salem, 1636, where he was given an allotment of 20 acers. He married Margaret Norman, daughter of Richard Norman and Margaret ( may have been Florence) Alford of Somersetshire, England. bwt 1633 - 1636. Their first child was born 1637, they had 8 children in all. Robert's first four sons were bpt 23 Apr 1650 in the First Church Of Salem, he was made a Freeman 29 Apr 1652. He and Margaret lived in what was called Cape Ann, later to be Beverly, Massachusetts.
Robert was one of the founders of the First Church Of Beverly, wherehe kept the early records of the church. He was a Cooper by trade. He died bwt 14 Oct, when his will was written, and 10 Dec, when an inventroy of his estate was taken, 1672. Will Proven Apr 1673.
Margaret married second, Samuel Fowler of Salisbury, Massachusetts. (Essex County Probate Records, And Records of Deeds), After april 1673. some secondary sources has Margaret as being married to Samuel first. (not true)
Any help will be most appreciated.
