Does the British War Museum allow you to view medals online?
I have a medal card for Major A. Wells 1914 and I think it says "clasp roses issued". There is also the #14 beside the word star with a date. Then under remarks is says Disemb (I think) and then Claspr0894. Under rank it states PW or would that mean Pte? He was 17 years old in the Queen's Regiment.

Thanks for any info.

Vanessa

I have since found out that it does say clasp of roses. Does the #14 represent the year 1914?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking there Vanessa.
Are you looking for some typical pictures of what his medals would look like?
Or are you saying that his medals in particular are in a museum somewhere?

I would guess from the rest of what you've said that he was a private, and was entitled to the 1914 Star with clasp, War Medal & Victory Medal.

I want to view pic online. I followed a link in another thread that describes how to read medal card.
Major A. Wells, Queen's Regiment Pte. 6385 received the Victory medal for Egypt, the 1914 Star and Clasp of Roses I.V. on 10/11/14.
I have no info regarding WW2 on any medals he might have received or length of service. Have checked TNA but not sure of way around. Besides WW2 records not released for another 40 years. I'll be rolled over by then. As I just discovered my uncle was married with children I'm hoping to find them and maybe learn some more history of the family.

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as Neil because the page that describes how to read the index cards also has images of the medals.

That's great! I saved it into my photo folder! I will now get the info from Nat Arch that describes the medals and who receives them. Thank you Neil

The Disemb, that means Disembodied, when he was discharged, he would not be recalled for service, either thro wounds, age or fitness.

Yes, he was gassed in the war and did die of TB in 1949. He was born 1897 so joined at a very early age.

Thanks Retlaw:)
