I have been trying to find the baptism records for my great grandfather's family, and so far i have drawn a blank. Their first daughter was baptised at Sheffield Cathedral( as it is now) in 1829, but i can find no other baptsms after that ( there were 11 children in all). I've looked at the baptism records for most of the curches in the areas they were living at the time. Most of them were buried in Anglican churchyards and married in Anglican churches, but after that they are noticable by their absence in the baptism records. They don't appear on the IGI either. Does anyone have any advice as to where i could look next?

Was it usual to have your first child baptised and not the subsequent children?

I'd be grateful for any ideas. I have also looked at some of the non conformist records for the area but they aren't there either.

It is not a definite answer, but sometimes in the 19th century families had children baptised as job lots some years after their birth - you may have to look for up to 18 years after the birth of the first child (whose baptism you cannot locate).

Do you have birthplaces for the family from census returns? Are they all in or around the same place?

I take it you've worked your way through the Sheffield page on GenUKI?
