Hi All
I am going to Liverpool library on Friday 2nd Nov & am able to do lookups for Wills listed in the Probate Index books. These run from about 1853 to the 1950s & give the references for Wills & Administrations in England & Wales (I don't think they cover Scotland).
As much detail as possible will help - full name, date of death, occupation, address (road, town, county), spouse's name - if you have it.
Except in the very early years, the Index gives the name of the deceased, date of probate & date of death, address, where the Will was proved (necessary if you want to get a copy), name of executor/s, value of the estate.

Dear Wirral

Thank you for your very kind offer, I wonder if you can help with my will query?
I'm looking for information on my great grandfather's will, he was, Alfred Henry PEARCE born 26/12/1856.

From OFHS Burial transcripts of Churchill I've been given the following;
19 March 1931 Alfred Henry PEARCE, Churchill, 73 years.
His address was; Hastings Hill, Churchill, Oxfordshire and he had worked as a 'Marine Store Dealer'.

His spouse was Sarah (ms Biggerstaff)

Thank you again, kind wishes.

What a nice offer to make. I haven't got a huge amount of detail on this one so if there's not enough please don't feel obliged to look it up.

Amelia ROSSER (widow of William Rosser) - death registered J/F/M 1921 Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales. Address would be Gilfach Goch, Glamorgan - most probably High Street. She was 81 when she died so her earlier occupation - greengrocer - might not get a mention.

I've only just found this death on the index and haven't received the certificate yet so haven't got the exact date or address.

Thanks for the offer to look up though and if it's too much of a faff to do this one I will completely understand.

Hi Sunpat
From the 1931 Probate Index:
PEARCE Alfred Henry of Churchill Oxfordshire died 16 March 1931 Probate Gloucester 7 May to George Henry PEARCE hawker. Effects £243 4s 6d.

Thank you for the look up, Wirral.

It's very useful information as it helps to confirm what I've been told, that George Henry, Alfred's son and my Great Uncle, was involved with the Will.

I understand that he was the main beneficiary and that there was a 'situation' which resulted from the Will and it's associated arrangements which had included my Great Uncle, George Henry, taking care of his mother, Sarah - Alfred Henry's wife - in her own home for as long as she lived.

The family home was to become George Henry's, conditional on caring for Sarah, but this arrangement fell through and she had to move in with one of her daughters where she lived (for about 20years) until she was hospitalised due to increasing frailty.

Next step is to obtain a copy of the Will to confirm whether the care of Sarah was actually included as a condition in the Will, if not it may have been a verbal undertaking given by George.

Thank you again
