BT Directories - Alternative Source

What would be an alternative source for address look ups and residential whereabouts for those not in the BT directories. Not a lot of people had telephones until well after the 1970's (I'm assuming). Must we rely soley on census and pay-per view like 192.com. The years I'm questioning is the 1920's thru 1950's.

It would depend what county you are looking at to see what Post Office directories are available, but we do have a good selection here (http://www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_1683.html).

Thanks Bo Peep. It's a lot of directories I'll need then as I'm currently looking in Lambeth and Kent and a couple of other places. I will definitely look in the Parish Chest1
