Can any one help with my family's legend that this family of Simon courage or Cournge as spelled at his mariage to Mary Eva says.

Came from france ?.

I can not as yet find any record of a birth or bapt although i have found his marriage at Helston and their children in Helston Wendron and Constantine.

Is there a site in france or a site for movement into uk before 1797?.

By the way all their children and decendents look dark with really bushy hair very mediterranean looks.

He was married to Mary 5 November 1797 Helston .He died aged 36 in 1812 at Constantine which made his birth about 1776.

Just wondering how, in 1797, a 21 year old man made it through Falmouth or Penzance or Plymouth without being caught up in the press, and how he managed to settle down without any trouble as close as Helston seems to be to the sea. If he was French, is it possible he was captured? There might be an entry somewhere in the ADM records at the National Archives. Or perhaps he was injured? In any case, he might appear on a French naval list. There are genealogists in France who might give it a try. Or it might be that he was of aristocratic background and took shelter with a sympathetic family in the area.

My grandmother always said that frenchmans creek got its name from somewhere and locals said many smuglers used it .
It would be good to connect the two .

Sorry I can't help with your question, but if you're tracking the children of Simon and Mary, their daughter Mary Ann COURAGE bap. 18 Nov 1798 in Wendron, married into a branch of my MOYLE family.

They called their first child, Simon Courage MOYLE.

If you have all the census returns for John MOYLE m. Mary Ann COURAGE, then you will have noticed that their childrens' birth places are *up the wall*! Constantine and Wendron are listed, but the only one I could verify was Simon Courage MOYLE in Constantine.

I have your Peter Courage MOYLE married to Julia Hannah LUGG in my file, with 13 children, but this information was sent to me a long time ago. I'm no longer in contact with this person and the info is not verified ..... as far as I'm concerned anyway.

If you're descended from Peter, hopefully you will have the facts.
