Hello Everyone,
I'm from Ottawa, Canada and I've been research my family history, off & on for the last 40 years. I'm currently concentrating on my Father's mother's Family, the COCKBURNS. My wife's family the RINGERS are from the Norfolk area.
Cheers
Ed R.

Welcome - there are several forums covering Norfolk

Do use them to post messages about your Norfolk family and what you're trying to find out. If you are not sure where in Norfolk the family came from, just post a message on the Norwich board.
How far back have you traced the RINGER family and where too - any other Norfolk names in which you are interested?

My Ringers seem to originate from Carlton Rode
William Ringer (1768-1863) married Mary Wright and had the following children:
Richard Ringer (1789-1871) m. Catherine Power then Elizabeth Campbell
male Ringer
Elizabeth Ringer (1808-1824)
Sarah Ringer
Mary Ringer (1813-?) married James Levell
Mary Wright died and William married Elizabeth (1770-1853) , widow of a man name Hawes they had the following children:
James Hawes (kept Hawes name)(1796-?)
Phoebe Hawes (1798-?) (changed his name to Ringer) married James Dawson
John Hawes (1800-1885) (changed his name to Ringer) married Sarah Philips d.1875)
Harriett Hawes (changed his name to Ringer) married James Rolphe (who also changed his name to Ringer??)
Mary Hawes (kept Hawes name)
John (Hawes) Ringer is my wife ancester.
I happened to find this article that briefly speaks of John Ringer and his families trip to Canada :

Richard Ringer was a soldier in the army and fought in the war of 1812 and settled in Upper Canada (Ontario). His half-brother John Ringer eventually joined him there.

TNA's catalogue shows a few hits for RINGERs from Norfolk. At least two of these entires seem to relate to the same man. Perhaps your Richard followed a family member into the army?
