Colmer from Orsett

Looking for anyone research COLMER from Orsett.

Family migrated to Essex via the East End of London from Crewkerne in Somerset.

John COLMER m. Elizabeth Mary GOODE bef 1893. They had 5 children to my knowledge....Hilda, John, Herbert, Florence and Stanley

John senior was a carpenter and born in Mile End East London. Florence became the third wife of my Grandfather Percy DAWKINS. Hilda COLMER m. Arthur WADE.

Were your COLMER,S actually living IN Orsett ? Your Hilda who married a Arthur Wade (b 1889) do you know if he was born in Great Burstead - parents Charles Wade and Sarah ???.
I am researching my sister in laws line and her Wades ended up in Orsett and still are almost (by marriage) !

To be honest, it's not a line I've researched very much as they aren't directly connected to me. However give me a couple of days and I will see what I can dig up. The story goes that Arthur Wade found a fortune in the Yukon, lost the lot through gambling and returned to the Yukon to find another fortune albeit smaller. He then returned to the UK and opened up a shop of some sort finally selling out to the Co-op. Now most of that is hearsay I reckon, but a nice story nonetheless.

It doesnt sound like her Wade but you never know. Arthur Wade b 1889 on my list had a brother Fred and Freds son in law is still with us so he may have heard stories if indeed its the same one

I'll see what turns up, as I say I don't know the family. However I do have photos of them. Also according to Ancestry there were 22 Arthur Wades living in Essex in 1891 and in 1901 there were 26. I have located the Arthur you mentioned in both censuses.

I don't have any dates for Hilda and Arthurs marriage either so it's something I need to find out. Presumably the wedding took place sometime when they were in their early twenties.

I do have some certificates for the Colmer family but I don't think any of them are marrige certs.

i have a florance, herbert and stanley in my lineage too plus 1 great uncle that went to the yukon. he did not use the name daines.
