My husband is trying to research his family history on line from Portugal (and is driving me mad in the process,) and has discovered that on 25/6/1913 his grandfather, Joseph Haworth (also Howarth) was living at Glebe Lane, Banks, North Meols, Lancs. where his daughter Mary was born. He is described as a farm labourer.

Can anyone tell me if the farm still exists and if by any remote chance it is still in the ownership of the same farming family?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Jespa. :)

Gasbag Berm Mem Ret

Sorry to hijack Jespa's thread, but I find myself intrigued by UK's signature. I know what a gasbag is, and I know what a berm is (it's the word my husband always looks up to test whether a dictionary is good), though the combination makes the mind boggle, but surely Gasbag Berm Mem Ret can't be Manchester's new motto?

You are quite correct Sue, it isn't Manchester new motto:D.

You crazy mixed up Manchester research specialist! I'll let Jespa have her thread back now. I'm sure they're not as mixed up as us in North Meols.

By way of apology to Jespa for hijacking her thread, here is a link to a Banks Village forum found when typing Glebe Lane and North Meols into Google

Err thank you, UK Search and Sue Mackay. Sorry I took so long to reply, been out in the sun all day.
I've sent the links to my husband to look at. Thanks again.

Go onto the North Meols (Southport) Family History Society's forum and see if they can help? They are a really friendly lot.
North Meols was an ancient township which included Churchtown, Crossens and Marshside (and much of Banks), but has now been swallowed up by Southport, but some of us still say we're from North Meols! Have you also tried to look at oldmaps website - put in Banks and have a wander!

I forgot that I had posted this. Thank-you SeaCopRimmer. I will pass this on to my husband.

I have an old copy of the 'Authentic Map Directory of South Lancashire' published by Geographia. No date but probablylate 1930s. As its name implies, Glebe Lane is close to the church and is adjacent to Vicarage Lane and Church Lane. Fleetwood Farm is shown just across Church Lane. The same roads appear on a recent A-Z, with a new [ish?] Fleetwood Lane appearing, perhaps where the farm was.
If you want a scanned copy of the earlier map, send me a message with your email address.
