My ancestor was Edward CLAYTON, born ca 1809 in Cloyne, County Cork. He married Hannah CUNNINGHAM in 1833 in Southwark, County Surrey. He was a tailor by trade.
I am looking for more data on two of his children:
Robert George Nathaniel Clayton, born 1838 in Surrey and married to a Julia. He too was also a tailor. They had nine children: Julia (1866); Mary (1869); Elizabeth (1871); Robert (1872); John (1874); Caroline (1878); William (1883) and Agnes (1886).
I have only been able to find a marriage for Caroline to a Thomas John Whitbourn in 1903 and they had six children: Thomas, Caroline, John, Richard, Reginald and Edward.
I wonder what happened to the other children of George and Julia Clayton?

I have a Anne Clayton who married John Williams Cockburn (1807-1879) England(?)
They had 4 children: Emamuel James Cockburn (1842-1909); Richard Cockburn (1843-1882); William Cockburn and Mary Cockburn. The family moved to Canada in the 1850's I think. Emamuel & Richard were born in Kirkdale, Liverpool according to their Obits.
Are their any lost Anne's with your Claytons?

According to the 1871 census ( RG10; Piece: 504; Folio: 39; Page: 41 ) Robert and Julia CLAYTON were born in Ireland, not that census returns were always gospel.
18 Gun Street, Old Artillery Yard, Tower Hamlets
Robert CLAYTON 32 [no occupation given] b. Ireland Cork
Julia CLAYTON 28 b Ireland Cork
Margaret 7 b. Stepney
Julia 5 b Stepney
Mary 2 b Southwark
Elizabeth 2mo b Mdx, Spitalfields

Actually I think I see Robert Clayton, tailor, born Southwark
Could this be the marriage...
Marriages Dec 1861
Clayton Robert St Geo East 1c 867
Driscoll Julia St Geo East 1c 867
Murphy Daniel St. Geo. East 1c 867
Ryan Ellen St Geo East 1c 867
If so, 8nicks won't have to call her "a Julia" for much longer ;)

How embarrassing! You are quite right! That'll teach me not to do things in a hurry because I want to go and watch The Coal House! Obviously read off Julia's line when looking at Robert.

Don't be embarrassed. Reading the wrong line is usually my trick.
The Old Artillery Ground where the family was living has an interesting history. 8nicks might like to read this...

Peter,
This is my original post and you may have cleared things up as I also had Robert as being born in Cork (his parents were). True, and I can add a surname to Julia.
Thanks a bunch

Sue,
Thanks for the census update and as usual one cannot always be certain about census accuracy. However, Robert's parents were born in County Cork and I assumed that Robert was born on a visit by his parents back to the ol' sod!
:-)
