Dear Forum members
I have now information which confirms that my my great great grandfather Richard Goodey and Mary Goodey (nee Goodey - a cousin I believe) were married at St Mary Parish Church, Newington, Surrey (nowadays Southwark in London) on 15.7.1840, and the witnesses were Eliza Voller and W M Williams. Address (I presume for Richard Goodey) of 11 East Street, Newington. The Bridegroom's father is given as Robert Goodey, a farmer and bride's father is given as Richard Goodey, a groom (I presume of horses). The age of the couple getting married is given as "of full age" - would that mean age 21? In that case they were both born 1818-1819.
I believe that my great great grand father Richard Goodey was born in Oxfordshire and was a baker like his son my great grand father John Goodey born 23 Feb 1850, who was also a baker.
Can anyone please help go a little further back in tracing birth certificates (and or Marriage Certificates) for Richard Goodey and his father Robert Goodey (possibly born about 1795)and his wife Mary's father also called Richard Goodey.
Many thanks
Richard
