Hi, I'm new to the forum and have already introduced myself in the other section, I am unable to trace one of my ancestors Elizabeth Hancock in the 1871 census. She was born 1855 in Carmarthen and in 1861 was still living there, I can trace her in 1881 to Dover and further on to Liverpool in 1891, I have tried all combinations of her name but no luck on both the british and welsh census returns. I have also looked for her father Jospeh (mariner- merchant service b abt 1812) but have also drawn a blank there, and the same with her mother Ann, she didn't marry till she was 31 so she would still be Elizabeth Hancock, can anyone help with why this is?

If her father was a merchant mariner it was not unheard of for wives and family to sail with the ship, especially if Joseph was a captain.
Could this be the family in 1871?
