Friends
An invitation to make a contribution to my research in the village of Palterton.

Included in Palterton are the "areas" of Rhylah (Riley) and Stockley.

Do you have any ancestors that lived or worked in this village?

Do you have any snippets of information about the village?

Regards

Jack (Richards)

Hi Friends

I have just come across two short but lovely graphic descriptions concerning the village of Palterton, Derbyshire and life on two of the farms.

I've put these two little pieces on my web site.

The first description is in Volume / Book 4 under Carr Farm. An isolated farm house 1 mile from the village. The story is c.1918 and true.

The second is further down the list under Hall farm, scroll down to the year 1922, another lovely description of the farmer "flitting" (moving house) from Carr Farm to Hall Farm, a journey of one mile slightly up hill, not just the furniture - that was the easy bit, but the animals - some misbehaving. Then the first night in the big house. Must have been hard work, seems the best behaved of the animals were the shire horses.

Hope you find them interesting. From around 1890 there were miners in the village as there were in many villages, changing village life for the next 75 years.

Regards
Jack
