Dear Forum Members
I am searching for records of my grandfather George Goodey born circa 1891 married 22/3/1914 to Ada Phillips in Islington London. Described as a motor driver on his marriage certificate and may have driven during the war in the Army. Can someone point me in the right direction to find out about his service record.

Regards

Richard.

Most army service records from WW1 were damaged or destroyed by fire in WW2. Have a browse at The National Archive's (TNA) research guides
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/researchguidesindex.asp
scroll down to 'B' and look at links prefixed 'British Army.

However, TNA's documentsonline
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/
has WW1 campaign medal cards online which can show if someone served in the army and also RN service records.

WW1 Army Pension records from document class WO364 are now online, see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/stories/166.htm

Your chap may possibly appear in the National Roll of the Great War (but note that it is not complete). This can be seen on pay-per-sites such as 'find my past'.

If you are really lucky, Peter Goodey, a very regular contributer to these forums, may be able to assist with information.
