View Full Version : National Registration
Hi
Was National Registration required during WW1? I notice the National Registration Act is dated 1915.

I have my grandmother's registration card, certifying she had been registered under the National Registration Act 1915, stating her full name, occupation and address ... strangely it was issued after the war; .. 16 January 1919, and required her to notify any change of address within 14 days to the Clerk of the Council/Borough/District in which the address is situated. I suppose there was a whiff of revolution in the air and the government wanted to keep tabs on the population.

The Armistice was signed in 1918 but I believe the war did not officially end until 1920

Where would one search for a national registration card?

All destroyed except for a tiny sample I believe. And even if they had survived, they'd be subject to 100 year closure (presumably - I understand that is the situation regarding 1939 registration)
