I'm stuck with this one.

John Jobson is my Great X 7 Grandfather. His wife (my Great X 7 Grandmother) was named Mary?
His son James was born in 1711 - all from Shutford.
John was born circa 1675?

Who were the parents of John Jobson and/or Mary?

Checking the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837), the earliest marriage for a John JOBSON is in 1742 (both bride and groom came from Shutford, but were married in Drayton).

There are no earlier JOBSON marriages (any forename) in Shutford.

According to my notes the Shutford registers date from 1698 (baptisms) and 1702 (marriages). To delve into periods before this, we have to adopt a different strategy.

For starters, it may be worth exploring probate and tenancy/manorial records, if you haven't already done so.

Apart from PCC, probate records coving Shutford would be at Oxon RO.

The British Record Society has published indexes and I think the Society of Genealogists library has copies.

You don't say where you are so I'm afraid I can't tailor the advice to suggest what might be best for you.

That's useful info. Could be the James Jobson in my tree born 1711 could be the same James who married Anne - if so then you have found Anne's maiden name - accepting the change of spelling 'Anne - Ann'.

Thanks
