Hi Yvonne,

I haven't found any connection with your Grays. Mine came from Sheffield to Killamarsh (Sheffield 1887, Eckington 1889, Killamarsh 1893 onwards).

Jon

Hi Jon

I'm researching the Batty family in Killamarsh (my mother's side of the family - she was born there). I go back to at least the late 1700s though I haven't come across any connection the the Gray family as yet.
The line appears as follows:
John Batty (b.1778) m Sarah Hay (Key??)
John Batty (b 1820) m Elizabeth Green
Joseph George Batty (b 1843) m Mary Elizabeth Turner
Maurice Batty (b 1893) m Mary Tongue
Elsie Batty (b 1920) - my mother
I've traced the lines of some of the siblings of each generation, so I'd be interested to find out your connections.
regards
Eric

Hi Terry,

Mary Elizabeth Turner was born about Sept 1850, the daughter of John and Lucy Turner, in Wales, Yorkshire. She had a number of brothers and sisters all born Wales. She married Joseph George Batty in 1867 in Sheffield. She died in 1907 in Killamarsh, Derbyshire. They had at least 11 children.

If you want more information I can supply names, dates, etc.

Regards
Jon

My Killamarsh family was connected to Batty family thru marriage. Names included Slack, Lacey-Hatton (my mother's surname...They were sometimes known as Lacey or Hatton), Hysett, and Siddall. I'm sorry, no Gray.k

I may know you under another name from past contact, but if not, I may be able to supply SIDDALL information.

Thank you again. You were marvelously helpful vis a vis the Siddalls. We both continue to search for Anna Runcorn/Rencorne. We compared notes on the Hatfields as well. I am 'riddled with siddalls'

My Hatfields were in Staveley... by and large...Godfrey Hatfield was a farmer at Park Gate. My great granny was an Ellen Hatfield. Names that occur on regular basis are William (Willi), Godfrey and John and Joseph. They must have lived in Brimington in very early 1700's. Eileen and I share a Hatfield connection as well as a Siddall connection. My Eckington lot were Cartledge, Phinney (Finney),Tindale,Mettam, and Cousins. (I have 250 relatives from Eckington.)
I do have a John Thomas Turner who married Harriet Ann Hatfield in the late 1880's.I'll try and run that inf down. I'm sure there is some connection somewhere. They knew one another.LOL!

My mother's family were called Batty from Eckington and surrounding areas. I don't know who you have traced and whether there is a connection.

Chris..I don't know who you are responding to,but as for me, my family lived in Killamarsh and Eckington. I think my mother was friends/went to school with an Elsie Batty in Killamarsh. The Hatfield's married into the Hysett Boaler family. Martha Hatfield, my ggrandmother's sister married Joseph Hysett Boaler in 1872. His mother was a Susannah Batty b.1834 in Killamarsh.
In addition, Edith Siddall (my first cousin, two times removed)married Frederick Battyb.1863, Killamarsh in the Sheffield District reg District in 1894. Ring a bell? Karen in Chicago
