My name is Gerry Smith and I have just started to research my family history this week.In particular I am trying to trace my greatgrand dad who served in the Royal Artillery in the 2nd Boer War and WW1.

I have looked up his records in the National Archives and got a lot of information but I cannot find out if he is entitled to any medals from his time in South Africa or India.

Can anyonr help or give me any direction please. I have to say that the research is very interesting but you do end up going up many blind alleys!!!!

His service record should include a section detailing medals he was granted for service. The actual medal roll for the South Afrucan War is at TNA in WO100.
