I have just become a member. I have been researching my Marsay family history for about 2 years now. I have managed to trace a direct line back as far as 1756 using census info and parish records. Unfortunatley due to the lack of info on baptism records around this time I have come unstuck.
The Marsay's I am researching are from the Whitby area and were originally farming people but also became miners as the iron ore industry developed, and of course there are some mariners amongst them. If I can be of any help to anyone also researching this name please feel free.
I am also researching my maternal ancestry which includes the names Illingworth and Mathers from the Leeds area. I haven't been quite as successful to date and would appreciate any contact from people also researching these names.
