I am trying to trace members of my grandmothers family who I believe originated in Swansea Wales.
Her name was Barbara Pauline Cowley (Masters was married name)

Brothers: Roland Cowley
Peter Cowley


That is all I know, it is vague but I'm hoping someone out there may have something.

Any idea when your grandmother or her brothers were born? Even an approximate time frame?

Nineteen COWLEYs associated with Swansea show up in the 1901 census but none have the same given names as yours. There is a Rowland H. COWLEY in the BMD birth index, born in 1917 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan... mother's maiden name was FRYER.

Thanks so much, that is probably one of mine as my nan was born 1926 and he was her older brother, I actually didnt know his mums maiden name so I'll have a look down that route. There is another brother I think he may be Louis but I cant be sure. I dont seem to be able to get into the BMD Index, so any more help you can give me will be gratefully accepted.

Sally, have you tried http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl?

I don't see a Louis or Peter Cowley on the list of Cowleys born in Glamorgan or, unfortunately, any record of a marriage between a Ryder and a Cowley in Wales.

Would you happen to know where your grandmother's father's occupation or their household address in Swansea? Perhaps they can be found in a local directory...

I have ordered a copy of my grandmothers birth certificate today, which I should receive Wednesday, I am hoping this will give me more to go on. Thanks again for your help
