Yet again, I've let myself in for more work, and wonder if someone could help me save a bit of time. To cut a long story short, my 86 yr old brother-in-law has just drawn a map of the village he lived in for a great part of his life, which was completely demolished in the 1960's. He has been putting names of the occupants of the houses living there during his younger days, and I have promised to make a list of all of the people living there from the Censuses. There are not many people around who remember the earlier days when there was also a Gas Works and Sewerage plant there, and it was also on the edge of the river Medway.
I have the Census details of the 1891 as I transcribed this piece of Sheppey a few years back, which shows two streets. I also have the details of the 1881, which has fewer houses and they are all just numbered with no street names. So.....I am going to the Library to search out the rest of the Censuses, but I wondered if someone would be able to look the location up on a few earlier Censuses just to see when it was built.
I am looking for West Minster in the Parish of Minster in Sheppey. I tried searching myself on various `pay to view' although I don't subscribe, to see if it would bring at least the address up, but it only appears on the 1881 as it shows `Street'. I put West Minster as the street as this is what it was called at that time, so I assume that it was also called this in 1871.
It's quite possible that the village wasn't built until after 1871 in which case, I am looking in vain, but I hoped to save myself ages of scanning through film looking for a village that wasn't there.......if you see what I mean!!
Thanks in advance for any help....I really appreciate it. ;)
