Research interests in Coltishall are:
My 2xgt grandmother, Mary Ann BLOOM, bn 1842 Coltishall, died 1905 Lowestoft - she married William Albert LOWE (1840-1924).
Her parents were John BLOOM (b1807 Woodbastwick) Mary Ann NOBBS (b1804 Coltishall) - they married at Frettenham in 1827. John BLOOM was a maltster in the village.
Besides Mary Ann, they had 7 other children, of whom the following 6 were baptised in Coltishall:
James (b1830), George (1832-1884), Robert (b1840), Jonathan (1834-40), Mary Celia (1837-1840) and John (1844-1850).
In 1831, Mary Ann BLOOM (nee NOBBS) b1804 and her mother Letitia NOBBS (nee ELLINGHAM) 1782-1863 were sentenced to a month in the clink for theft of a lace cap.
It would be nice to hear from anyone who is descended from James, George or Robert.

Nice to hear from you, and see that you've joined the fourms. You are of course correct, for some reason I left out Sarah from the list.
She was baptised at Frettenham - entry 152, page 19 of the register:
15th June 1828, Sarah d of John + Mary Anne, otp, father a labourer.
She appears in the 1851 census as:
HO107/1810 f535 p19
Sco Ruston Road, Coltishall
John Bloom, Head, Mar, 43, Maltster, Woodbastwick
Mary Ann Bloom, Wife, Mar, 46, , Coltishall
Sarah Bloom, Dau, , 22, Dressmaker, Horstead
Robert Bloom, Son, , 11, Scholar, Coltishall
Mary Ann Bloom, Dau, , 8, Scholar, Coltishall
Mary Ann Bloom, Niece, Unm, 18, Dressmaker’s assistant, Woodbastwick
I take it this is the marriage to which you refer?

HANNANT, James, ofa, Belaugh, , Gardener - George Mason - Innkeeper,
BLOOM, Sarah, ofa, John Bloom - Labourer,
wit: James Bloom, Mary Anne Bloom
which would seem to make us somehow distantly related?
How does James fit into your Hannants?

James was born in Belaugh and his mother Mary Hannant (bn Sloley) was my g.g.g.aunt. Have you found the BLOOMS on the 1871 census yet? They are in Wymondham with Sarah visiting with her son Robert Hannant and Mary? visiting with her LOWE daughter. I can give you the reference if you need it.
I'm now registered as a one-name study for Hannant and am finally making progress in the 16/1700's.

Yes, I trawled almost all the way through the census for Wymondham to find the Blooms (I always liked the name of John Bloom's nephew - Christmas Bloom :) the two go well together). I was surprised to find Mary Ann Lowe there as she and her daugher also appear in the 1871 census for Lowestoft. Poor little Katie, she died in 1879 from Meningitis - three years before her eldest brother died from the same illness. It's odd how things affect us differently, I was really sad when I found the record of her death.

Excellent, have you got the Norfolk Hearth Tax Returns for the Hannants?
If you need owt, drop me a line - it's best to contact me via these forums as I rarely check e-mail these days.
