I have always puzzled how my grandfather, William Forse of Exeter, met my gt grandmother Margaret Grant Toolan, who at the time of their marriage in 1889 in St George hanover Square London, was either a housekeeper or ladies maid in the household of general Sir Redvers Buller. I have found that the general had estates in Devon and my gt grandfather worked for a firm called Isaacs in Exeter which made hunting boots for the gentry. Does anyone know anything on this firm please?

It would certainly be worth your while searching the directories. I had a quick look on one of the Devon (http://www.parishchest.com/en-gb/dept_2563.html) directories (Kellys 1893) and found the following:
Exeter
ISAAC Richard boot & shoe maker 28 South Street.
Good luck.

I am related to the Isaac family of Martock that were Boot and Shoe makers .... I wonder if this is the same line ?
Buller had a large estate in the Crediton area. See here for some info

There is also a statue to him, mounted on his horse, on the road into Exeter from Crediton at Queen Street. The people of Crediton often comment that in this statue he has his bum pointing towards Crediton, which is apparently significant!

The usual address of Sir Redvers Buller was Downes, Crediton. 'Nuff said?
