Tuke Family

The first post for Wicklow!!!!

Well here goes :)

My husband's family originally came form this beautiful county and I am struggling to find any info. The earliest records I have is in the 1800's.

John Tuke married Ann Roberts on 29 Oct 1832 in Knockenree. They had 8 children:

Elizabeth Tuke b: 1833
John Tuke b: 1836 (my husband's gt gt grandfather)
Maria Tuke b: 1841
Susannah Tuke b: 1843
Anne Tuke b: 1846
Dorah Tuke b: 1850
Jemmima Tuke b: 1852
Thomas Benjamin Tuke b: 1855

I have no other details about the family and would be interested in hearing from anyone who may be able to help.

We are planning a trip to Wicklow next year and hopefully will be able to trace the family back further.

First of all, thank you locallad27 for the helpful links, much appreciated.

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Tuke, born 1866 in the district of Rathdrum, I believe. She married Richard Mates in 1885 in the same district. They had 12 children before they left for the States in 1911.

I'm hoping to learn more about her family, as I know nothing of her siblings or parents.

Of interest to me is the list of Tuke family members provided by Bitza at the start of this thread, because our Elizabeth (Tuke) Mates gave her children some of the same names. Perhaps my Tuke family is the same as Bitza's.

Any information you have would be wonderful. I'm happy to share what I have, which is mostly of the Mates family.
