Early Stuart Mariners and Shipping: The Maritime Surveys of Devon and Cornwall 1619-35. By Todd Gray. The book contains all the surviving early-Stuart surveys of mariners and shipping for Devon and Cornwall. It includes one from South Devon discovered in Pepys Library. Parish by parish along the coast the seafaring population is delineated. 6000 names listed giving an excellent source for family historians. These early surveys are types of “Maritime Censuses”.
