My interest in Horstead stems from........

Wiliam LOWE, (born 1804 Hevingham; died 1875 Thurning) married
Eliza COLLINS (bn1809 Lammas, died 1871 Horstead) at Buxton in 1829.

Their first child Elizabeth was born in Buxton, but the couple had moved to Horstead by 1833 when their first son, William was baptised.

This couple had 9 children in all, of whom 6 died in childhood, several from scarlet fever in the 1840's.

The three children who survived were:
Elizabeth (1829-1858), she had an illegit son, Robert in 1848.

My 2xgt grandfather William Albert LOWE (bn1840 Horstead, died 1924 Somerleyton). He married (1) Mary Ann BLOOM (1842-1905) and (2) Mary Ellen CUNNINGTON (1865-1929). All his children were from his first marriage

Frances Maria LOWE (bn 1849 Horstead, died 1925 Gresham) who married George STIBBONS.

If you have a connection, please respond to this message.

Hello Geoffers
I am researching the Stibbons in Norfolk and found your post on this forum.

George had three sisters and two brothers.
One of his brothers, Heber, was my husband's great grandfather.

Let me know if you want any more info.

Thanks for your reply - I've traced most of what I need to connect the Stibbons with my own family. I was in contact sometime ago with a lass who married into the family, Helen Stibbons, who lives in Norfolk, I take it you know her?

If you are interested, there' a photo of George + family outside their home in Gresham, on this link

Yes - We have contact with Helen and I know she has also done a lot of research.

Your 1861 name index is proving useful - it at least points me in the right direction for the parishes I need to look at. Thanks

BrendaHow far back have you got with your Stibbons? George was the son of James Stibbons who was bapt in Buxton in 1811 - the son of Richard and Susanna (late Whiteman).

I also indexed some of the 1841 census (I didn't inlcude parishes transcribed for the Norfolk Transcription Archive) - the index includes:

STIBBINGS, HO107/761/2, f30, p6, Aylsham ED2
STIBBONS, HO107/761/11, f6, p9, Brampton
STIBBONS, HO107/761/11, f7, p12, Brampton
STIBBONS, HO107/761/11, f7, p12, Brampton
STIBBONS, HO107/763/13, f4, p32, Haveringland
STIBONS, HO107/761/2, f8, p10, Aylsham ED1

Thanks for that - Yes I have got as far back as Richard and Susanna.

I haven't checked all the census records yet - so will be looking at the entried at Brampton etc. when I get time.

From Buxton Parish Registers:
Entry 140, Page 50
Richard STIBORN, otp, sm, X - married
Susanna WHITEMAN, otp, sw, X
25th Novr 1788 after banns
wit: James ANDREWS, sig - Richd COPLAND, sig.

The 1851 census shows Richard living along Coltishall Road, near the old workhouse:

HO107/1810 f593 p11
Shultas Corner, Buxton
Richd. STIBBON, Head, widr, 94, Pauper, bn Buxton
(This was next to the house occupied by James, his son).

Buxton registers note the burial of Richard Bealy STIBBON, aged 102 on Friday 2nd January 1857

I'm not too sure that the age at death was accurate because Buxton registers records:

1766 - "April 13th Richard Bealy son of John & Ann STIBORN was Baptized."

John Stiborn may possibly be the chap whow as bapt at Buxton in 1720, the son of Will + Mary. Though as with a few other Buxton families, the Stib(b)o(r)n(s) seem to have moved out of the village for a few years around 1730-1750.

If I can help you further with Buxton, let me know as I have a load of stuff relating to the parish - though perhaps this should move over to a new thread on the Buxton forum as it's now getting away from the original post.
