Hi!, been away for a while but back on the trail again. Nice to see some old participants still around. I will be researching ancestors in Devon, Cornwall, Sussex, Kent. Also Naval ancestors and coast guard members.
Speak to you later colin

Hi Glenys, nice of you to offer your help. I have info on my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, John Bennett who was a coast guard at Woolwich in the 1800's, and have traced him through to Chichester and finally to Falmouth Cornwall.
However do you know of any likely photo archive that may exsist of coastguards at that time? Or anything else that may be of interest to do with the Coastguard service of the time?
Hope to hear from you again. Bye for now colin

Thanks for the info on Bennett GeoffD. I have no knowledge of the above names in my research. The first bennetts in my line comer from Northhants UK in the 1700's, That is a William Bennett marrying a Mary Baker. If your Bennetts tie with William then perhaps we have something. Thanks again colin

Hi Colin my main area of interest is Polperro in Cornwall, many of the men served time in the coastguard service. I have come across a couple of useful websites when researching coastguards
http://www.british-genealogy.com/mailman/listinfo/gen-coastguards
(Mainly deals with Irish coastguard stations but also has letters written by the men & gives an idea of what the life was like. Includes Census information).
http://www.british-genealogy.com/mailman/listinfo/gen-coastguards
(Cornish Smugglers Coast Guard / Revenue Men)
There is also a mailing list for descendants of Coastguards
