Hi,
Trying to find out birthplace and parents of REBECCA COLE, born 1878. Rebecca died in 1978 or '79 in Bedfordshire, probably Maulden. Married a Mr Parker and had 12 or 13 children including Messina and Nellie.

In Ancestry's 1901 census transcription, was it you who submitted the alternative name of Rebecca Cole for Rebecca Parker?

Mary Cole is also shown as single in 1891 and described as the daughter of Edward Cole, 76.

I assume there's no marriage for Rebecca? Do have the birth certificate for at least one of the children? Do you have Rebecca's birth certificate?

If you've got a family of serial non-marriers, you can't skimp on the information - you need to grab everything that's available!

From the census, her parents would appear to be Edward Cole and Rebecca.

Edward Cole married Rebecca Elmore on 13 Aug 1834 at Maulden (source: IGI)

You need to get BMD certificates to confirm the above guesswork.

Thanks for the detective work. I didn't supply the name change I'm afraid.
I don't have access to the 1901 census, do you have a place of residence for the Cole/Parker family? I've been told by the family that Rebecca worked in service but I don't know if it was in Bedfordshire. Interestingly there is also a family story that Rebecca had an illegitimate child with (possibly) the son of her employer and he was called William Cole (given his mother's name).
Her daughter Nellie and her husband both worked on the Wingfield estate.
I have no certificates of marriage or birth for the family. I'm certain Rebecca was born in 1878 as I attended her 100th birthday in 1978. I belive she died before her next birthday. I've found a Rebecca Cole b. abt 1879 in Maulden which may be correct.
Her daughter Nellie married a William Edler (born march 1901) and their eldest child was born in august 1928 so I've got an approximate date only.

The family were in Ampthill Rd, Maulden and there was a 5 year old William Cole there.
