I recently found this site and am interested in finding information on my English ancestors. I live in the u.S.A. (Pennsylvania).
The ancestor I'm looking for is Joseph Stains, who I'm told came from England and arrived in Baltimore, Maryland probably in the mid to late 1600s. One of his sons, Thomas, was born about 1654.
IF anyone could provide information on the above, or provide suggestions as to how and where I should search, please contact me at stains@innernet.net
Thank you.
John

John, there is no easy way to research your ancestors. The best way is to start with yourself and work your way back. This way you will know for certain that the information is correct.
If you go here:
www.british-genealogy.com (http://www.british-genealogy.com)
You will find pages of useful information on how to trace your ancestors. It might sound like a chore when what you would like is for someone to step up and give you the information but the search can be quite exciting.
I will give one little warning though, if there is anything that you would not like to find in your family ie bigamy, illegitimacy, law-breakers then do NOT start researching because you will find these things, no matter how good and honest and law-abiding your ancestors may appear you will find all these things and more.
