John Cox in Potton

Hi,
I have the 1881 census results for John and his family, can someone check the earlier census results for him please?
JOHN COX b.1837, Potton
wife MARY b.1838, Sutton and four children; GEORGE b.1866, JAMES b.1869, CHARLES b.1874 and WILLIAM b.1877 all children born in Potton.
I'd also like to know the census entry for CHARLES in 1891. I know he was a policeman either living or working in Battersea by 1901, but I'm not sure how he got there.

Charles is still with father John and mother Mary in the 1891 census of Potton (RG12/1254, folio 129, page 19). They are living at 11 Wagstaffe Terrace, Sandy Road, Potton. Charles is described as an Agricultural Labourer as is brother James, aged 20 and father John. No sign of William.

There is a marriage on FreeBMD in the March qtr 1861 at Biggleswade reg district (includes Potton) of a John COX and one of the other names shown is that of a Mary ELWOOD - could she be your Mary??

Hi Janet,
This is all good, it brings all my information together. I suspect that the marriage to Mary Elwood is the right John Cox. It would've needed to happen before the 1861 census was taken and I haven't found any others that seem as feasible.

Interesting that the names of 2 of Mary's siblings, i.e. Jesse & Selina, are the names of two of the children of John & Mary COX especially as Selina is not a particularly common name. Hope this helps
