A distant relative of mine has informed me that Eli Jackson [born 1872], a son of my maternal grandfather David Jackson, was murdered, possibly sometime during the 1950s/1960s. His neck was broken and his body was found in a ditch in a farmers field. Apparantly the crime, reported in the News of the World, remains unsolved.
Can anyone with [or without] an interest in the macabre shed any further light on this event?

A search of the Times Online data base failed to produce a result. I would have expected that a murder would be reported in the National Press.

I couldn't find anything with a search online. Do you have any more information - perhaps the area where Eli lived or where the murder took place? That may help to locate more about the event.

I found this on the National Archives site;

Metropolitan Police: Office of the Commissioner: Correspondence and Papers. Special Series MEPO 3/2175

Eli Jackson (age 68) found dead in suspicious circumstances at Green lane, Holcombe Farm, Newington, Oxfordshire on 21 December 1940

The age fits as well - I reckon that is the right person. Nice piece of detective work :)
